Description
Our Premium Bokashi Bran is a careful mix of bran and molasses, and is infused with billions of beneficial bokashi microorganisms. It has been double fermented, using the highest quality bacterial cultures (enhanced EM1 +), to ensure that it’s teeming with billions of live microbes, ready to ferment and compost your food scraps. These beneficial microbes are proven to be a key ingredient for building healthy and productive soils, and plant roots thrive on them.
Each 2.2 lb (1 kg) of this carefully dried and tested Premium Bokashi Bran is enough to last an average family 3 to 4 months with continuous use. This 11 lb (5 kg) offering will therefore typically be enough to last about 18 months. Our strict production process ensures that our Premium Bokashi Bran is always of optimal quality and freshness before delivering to your door.
Other uses of bokashi bran
Microbe rich bokashi bran has multiple other household uses! In addition to building better soil, you can also:
- dig it into existing compost piles to help re-invigorate them (this is especially popular during the colder winter months). With the addition of bokashi, life quickly returns to the pile, greatly speeding up the pile’s activity and quality of compost.
- see great results by adding it directly to the garden as a soil enhancer. Simply dig in a few tablespoons of bokashi per cubic foot of soil before planting into your garden or potting containers. When planting seeds and seedlings, a teaspoon in the hole is all that’s needed. The bokashi provides perfect conditions for plant root development.
- add it to kitty litter boxes, animal cages and outhouses to help control odors. Simply sprinkle the bokashi bran in these areas for a noticeable difference.
Storing bokashi bran
Bokashi bran is best stored in an airtight container, out of direct sunlight, and within a few degrees of room temperature. When stored correctly, our Premium Bokashi Bran will remain fully active for up to 18 months.
Plastic vs paper bags
This 11 lb (5kg) of premium bokashi bran can be shipped in either paper or plastic.
– Plastic option:
The plastic bag option is packed in one large zip-lock style bag. These bags are airtight, and suitable for storage of your bokashi bran. These bags are recyclable (provided you cut off the zip-lock piece at the top of the bag).
– Paper bag option:
Our paper bag provides a completely plastic free, sustainable option. This is our preferred option, and we encourage you to select it! The packing method and shipping time will not affect shelf life or usability of the bokashi bran, provided that you transfer it into your own airtight container once you open the package. Mason jars work great for storage, as do zip-lock freezer bags (and you can reuse them once done!). A quart size mason jar will typically store about 1 lb of our premium bokashi bran, and a freezer zip-lock bag will hold about 2.5 lb.

As mentioned in my voice mail, the density and volume can fluctuate slightly from time to time depending on the input grains that are used in each batch of bokashi bran that we manufacture. We’ve not seen it vary by as much as 10%, as yours did, however, and so we will be looking into that for better control moving forward.

Within 3-4 days after i put in the kitchen scrap, including meat and dairy scrap, i can get the liquid fertilizer from my homemade bokashi bucket. I received my product on 09/27, started the process the next day, now it’s the 12th day, I’ve got almost 2000ml of liquid bokashi fertilizer. I’m using it to spray on my indoor flowers (dilute it with water to 1:100 ratio) and my garden veggies. Very happy with the purchase. so far it’s working very well. Thank you for the product!
