Tea bags made of pla

marre van den brand asked 2 years ago

I wonder it tea bags sealed with
pla (plant based bioplastic) are broken down in the bokashi bin.
The clipper website mentions it is ‘compostable in a commercial compost facility’ because the home based compost heap wont reach the needed temperature.
I wonder if bokashi microorganisms will break it down.

There is no breakdown happening in the bokashi bin.  instead, it is fermentation at work.  Fermentation prepares the foods for rapid assimilation into the soil structure.  PLA materials don’t offer the bokashi microbes much of a food source, so they will pass through the bin unchanged.  We recommend to keep them out of the bokashi bin.
