There are two ways we can cure precompost – soil factory or bury the contents. I read everywhere that curing process is an aerobic process. Then by burying the precompost do we get the same result? I am using soil factory method for composting.

Hi Mrudula,

Thanks for your question. The first phase of the bokashi process needs to be anaerobic. However, the second phase (after the pre-compost has been buried) is aerobic. Wherever you choose to bury your bokashi pre-compost (soil, compost piles or soil factory) there will be air pockets. The microbes needed for fermentation in the first phase thrive best in anaerobic conditions, however, many of the beneficial bokashi microbes can survive in both aerobic and anaerobic environments.

Happy composting,
