No tea drainage

Dani asked 4 months ago

Hi there,
I bought a DIY bokashi kit (2buckets & bran) from a farm and the guide said to put cardboard at the bottom of the bucket instead of having a spigot. Anyone heard of that?
the first bucket seemed mostly ok (but didn’t cut things up small enough, so still waiting for it to dissolve in the soil)
second bucket had blue mould on citrus fruit peels but the rest had white mould and smelled citrusy. I only buried it today so awaiting my 2weeks.
i now read that I need to cut things smaller and need a plate/bag to push it down and keep airtight. I’ll see how the 3rd bucket goes.

Thanks for the question. We’ve never heard of using cardboard in the bottom of the bokashi bin to soak up the tea.  The tea needs to be drained as it accumulates, so its hard to imagine that this is an appropriate solution for that.
Happy composting 🙂
