What to do when maggots grow in bokashi bin?

If maggots are growing in your bokashi bin, then something has gone wrong.  The most common reasons are:

1) your bokashi bran is no longer viable (make sure it is less than 18 months old, and has been stored properly the entire time)

2) you have put items that are already rotting into the bokashi bin (you should not put rotting items in the bin)

3) you did not use enough bokashi bran in the bin, or did not spread it evenly enough throughout the bin.
