Collect tea

Carin asked 6 years ago

In mid winter my garden does not need bokashi tea. Once a week 1:100 tea for my indoor plants is enough. I know I can use it for the sink, but can I also preserve it in a bottle for later use?

Hi Carin,

Thanks for the question. We recommend using bokashi tea within a couple of hours of collecting it. One of the major benefits of bokashi tea is the abundance of beneficial bokashi microbes. The number of these microbes in the bokashi tea will start to decline once it is collected.

There are some suggestions that the tea can be stored in the fridge for a few days and frozen to store it for longer. However, there are no studies (that I am aware of) that show the number of bokashi microbes after storing the tea using these methods.

We would recommend using the freshly produced tea for your outdoor plants during the growing season.

Happy composting!
